Armchair Travel – Passport, Boarding Pass & Luggage Tag

Armchair Travel – Passport, Boarding Pass & Luggage Tag

Download our free travel templates designed specifically for aged care “Armchair Travel” sessions. Print out a Passport, Boarding Pass and Luggage Tag for each resident to fill out and use as part of an immersive group experience.

The templates are designed to be easy to read, engaging, and dementia-friendly, encouraging reminiscence, conversation, social connection, and imaginative travel from the comfort of the facility. The concept combines recreation therapy, creative engagement and accessible travel experiences to support wellbeing, cognitive stimulation, and enjoyment for older adults.

STEP 1

Before beginning your session, choose which country you would like to visit and prepare some activities that engage each of the senses. This could include things like themed snacks, music, quizzes and virtual tours. You may even wish to decorate the room beforehand.

STEP 2

Download and print out our free templates. We recommend printing onto cover paper for sturdier construction. Cut out the template pieces, making sure you have enough for each participant to receive a passport, stamp, boarding pass and luggage tag. Supervision is recommended when using scissors.

Note: You can have each participant fill out their passport and boarding pass after printing them out, or you can fill out the template on your computer first before printing and handing them out.

STEP 3

Fold the pages and the cover of the passport in half along the dotted line, then open back up and staple down the spine. Have each participant glue a photo of themselves into their passport and fill out their details. You can extend this activity by having a ‘photoshoot’ session beforehand to get the participants’ passport photos.

STEP 4

Hand out the boarding passes and stamp of your chosen country. A new stamp can be glued into the passport each time an armchair travel activity is run.

STEP 5

Have each participant decorate their own luggage tag. These can then be pinned to clothing or attached to walkers, armchairs and wheelchairs.

STEP 6

Once each participant has their passport, boarding pass and luggage tag ready, it’s time to travel! Enjoy the activities you have planned and immerse the participants in a fun and exciting journey around the world!
