Lunar New Year Fan

Decorate your fan using red paint. Allow to dry.

Download and print the required design from the templates provided. You may like to decorate the animal zodiac for the new year or choose the one from the year you were born! We recommend printing on cover paper as this provides the best surface for decorating.

Decorate your chosen animal design using markers. You can add some sparkle with glitter by applying glue and then sprinkling glitter on top. Allow to dry. Cut out your template. Supervision is recommended when using scissors.

Cut a 10cm length of gold yarn for the handle of the tassel and place down the length of your index finger. Grab a long length of yarn and wrap around all of your fingers. The more times you wrap around your fingers, the thicker your tassel will be. Once you are happy with the thickness, grab the handle piece and hold the two ends together. Carefully pull the yarn from your hand.

Tie the ends of the handle piece together in a tight double knot to secure the yarn. Ensure that the knot is tight to avoid losing any sections of yarn. Gather the yarn so that the loops are together at the opposite end from your knot. Cut through the middle of these loops to form the bottom of the tassel.

Cut another short piece of yarn to wrap around the tassel. Tie this tightly around the tassel approximately 1cm from the top to create a bulb shape. Trim any excess yarn.

Tape the tassel handle to the bottom of your fan.

Glue your decorated template to the fan near the bottom, just covering where the tassel is attached.

To create a hole for hanging, place a small piece of tape on the front and back of the fan at the top and punch a hole through the tape. The tape will ensure the hole is strong enough to hold your fan when hanging.

Cut a length of yarn and thread it through the hole you just created. Tie the ends together to create a hanger. Your Lunar New Year Fan is now ready to display!
