Mini Flowerpot Faces
This activity is a fun way to encourage creativity and cognitive stimulation while allowing people to connect in an engaging social situation. Individuals can plan their own design then discuss their choices in the group. Once finished, they can be displayed together to brighten up any communal area.
STEP 1
Think about what you would like your flowerpot face to look like. What accessories do you want it to have? What colour would you like it to be (if any)? You may even wish to sketch your thoughts onto a scrap piece of paper first.
STEP 2
Create any extra features or accessories you would like to add to your flowerpot face with super light air dry clay and allow to dry. These could be glasses, jewellery or facial features like a nose or ears. Once dry, add some colour using paint. Allow to dry.
STEP 3
Paint your flowerpot. You could paint the entire pot or simply paint some facial features. Allow to dry.
STEP 4
Seal your painted pot by applying 2 to 3 thin coats of gloss finish, allowing the layers to fully dry in between each coat. Make sure you seal the inside of the pot as well, to prevent water from soaking through the terracotta.
STEP 5
If you want to add a bandana to your flowerpot, cut a strip of felt and wrap it around the top of your pot, then glue in place. Allow to dry. Don’t forget to add a bow or knot! Supervision is recommended when using scissors.
STEP 6
Peel the backing from 2 wiggle eyes and stick in place on the front of the pot.
STEP 7
Lay your pot down on its side and use tacky glue to attach your air dry clay features from Step 2 in place. Allow to dry, making sure they don’t slide off the rounded surface.
STEP 8
Your Mini Flowerpot Face is now complete! Use peat pellets and seeds to fill the pot and grow a herb such as cress or rosemary. This will create hair for your design!
