Paint a Pet

Paint a Pet

Paint a Pet is a heartwarming art activity that encourages residents to celebrate the special animals that have been part of their lives. Set up desktop easels, paints and brushes, then invite participants to paint a beloved childhood pet from a photo, an online image, or simply from memory and imagination. This relaxing creative session promotes self-expression, reminiscence and meaningful conversation as residents share stories about their furry companions. Along the way, participants can enjoy social interaction while developing hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and confidence through art.

STEP 1

Set up as many desktop easels and canvases as required.

STEP 2

Start by sketching your chosen animal or pet onto the canvas using a lead pencil. A simple outline can help get the proportions and overall layout right before you begin using paint.

STEP 3

Decide what colours you would like to use and prepare your paint by squeezing them out onto the palette. You may choose warm or cool colours, contrasting or harmonious colours – get creative!

STEP 4

Keeping your reference image close by begin to paint your artwork, starting with the highlights and painting with the lightest colours first. Continue painting the mid tones next then the shadows to finish. If you are painting in a group feel free to chat about your favourite pets and animals! Allow to dry.
