Wattle Day Artwork

Wattle Day Artwork

Celebrate one of our bright and beautiful native trees this Wattle Day with a lovely artwork! This mixed media project is perfect for developing fine motor skills and combines different collage elements to produce a terrific, tactile masterpiece!

STEP 1

Pom poms make great ‘paint brushes’ when creating a Wattle Day artwork. Simply choose a couple of different sized pom poms ready to use. Dip a pom pom into the yellow paint and begin to dab it onto a piece of A4 white cardboard. Think about the way the little yellow wattle blooms cluster together. Continue dabbing with your different sized pom poms until you are happy with your design.

TIP: If you have Wattle near by, you could gather a small sample to study or look up some images on the internet as a reference for your artwork.

STEP 2

While the yellow paint is still wet, add a touch of sparkle to your design by sprinkling some gold glitter over the top of some or all of your wattle blooms. Tap off any excess glitter and allow to dry.

STEP 3

Take a paint brush and use green paint to create the leaves of the wattle and small stems to join the wattle flowers together. Allow to dry.

STEP 4

Add some texture and dimension to your design using scrunch art. Take small pieces of yellow crepe paper, scrunch into a ball and glue in place on your artwork using PVA glue. Add as many scrunch art wattle pieces as you wish, then allow your artwork to dry.

STEP 5

Mount your Wattle artwork onto coloured cardboard to make it really pop! We have chosen to cut down an A3 sheet of cardboard to create a thin border. Use PVA glue to stick your artwork to the centre of the coloured cardboard and allow to dry.

STEP 6

Your Wattle Day artwork is now ready to be displayed or gifted in celebration of our beautiful native tree!
